Inaugural Post

Alright, a little history. I'm not going to explain what a hash group is, because you can click on the Wikipedia article to the left and get a much better, more comprehensive description. But I will explain that this particular group in Midland was founded in October 2007 by an internationally working and traveling couple (a family, actually) that has since moved on to Oman. They were hash members in Pakistan, Colombia, Houston, and who knows where else. They'll soon be joining a hash in Oman that is currently up to over 1200 runs completed. Wow!

Our group? We just completed Run #7, and I must say IT WAS A DISASTER. We had some members from a nearby hash kennel visit that we had never met before, and they were the worst party guests my husband and I have ever had! (Some groups meet at a bar or other central location, but in our group we take turns hosting the hash at our homes.) We had several new participants at this hash, and the last thing we wanted to do was make them feel uncomfortable. But leave it up to our visitors to do just that. So here are some Do's and Don'ts I'd like to pass on that I learned from this little fiasco. You may notice that they are mostly Don'ts:

DON'T:
  • Force your kennel's rules off on the kennel you're visiting.
  • Complain. About anything. YOU ARE A GUEST.
  • Criticize the trail.
  • Criticize our hash song.
  • Criticize our beer.
  • Criticize our music.
  • Make your own symbols on OUR trail!
  • Be obnoxiously crude and trashy just to be crude and trashy.
  • Flirt with my daughter.
  • Behave like you're in junior high.
  • Spill food and beer all over the place and then leave it for others to step in.
  • Do any of the above and then commence to eating and drinking A LOT of what was provided.
DO:
  • Know when it's time for you to leave.
  • Leave.

I think that sums it up. Also, I had every intention of taking pictures this time so that I could share what a hash is like, but my camera (my very expensive graduation present that I bought myself) broke just as we were starting circle. Maybe next time!

OH MY GOODNESS. Luke and I just read this and had one hell of a laugh! You wrote this flawlessly! Usually I try not to use the term Laugh Out Loud, because I rarely think anyone is ACTUALLY laughing out loud, but here goes LOL for me and LOL for Luke as well! :D

So we have thoroughly enjoyed reading this and I must say, also enjoyed the rest of your blogs!
Thank you!
We are very much looking forward to the next hash, I hope it’s more sooner than later. Can’t wait to see what takes place next time, but from experience, anything could happen! Thanks for writing this down for us to enjoy. You Rock! I hope margaritas are included again in the next hash and from the looks of last night you may want to make 6-8 gallons, I think that may be enough! (for the 4 of us!)
